John Adams, Ph.D.
Dr. John Adams specializes in the assessment and treatment of sexual dysfunctions, intimacy disorders, and relationship distress; affective disorders; dysfunctional family systems; and anxiety disorders, including panic disorders, agoraphobia, and the assessment and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorders. In addition, Dr. Adams also works with clients with sexual compulsions that result in the disruption of the clients’ personal lives, their intimate relationships, and/or their occupational performance. Dr. Adams also provides consultative services to organizations on stress management and communication skills training, and he is active in community presentations for the education of the public on matters of psychology and on his special areas of expertise.
Dr. Adams, prior to working at Masters & Johnson Institute, spent five years at the Brevard Mental Health Centers and Hospital, Inc. in Rockledge and Titusville, Florida. He served as Chief Psychologist and Director of Youth Services. He provided counseling and psychological evaluation services for individuals, couples and family members. In addition, he served as Director of Research, and had primary responsibility for the supervision of psychology interns. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Florida. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the South Florida Society for Trauma Based Disorders, and the Tri-County Interagency Network. He has served as president of the South Florida Society for Trauma Based Disorders and currently he is the head of the organization’s public relations committee. In terms of serving the community in general, Dr. Adams is also a member of Rotary International. He is currently president of the Rotary Club of Coral Springs (July’06 – July ’07).
Dr. Adams received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Kent State University in 1981 and has been a licensed psychologist in Florida since 1983.
